Is leaving my current department for Houston Fire worth it?
I’ve been working in the fire service for about a year now for a ESD department near San Antonio. I’ve been pretty disappointed with the amount of fires we catch and it’s always been a goal of mine to work for a busy city dept like Houston Fire.
My question is is it worth it financially given the state of HFD currently. Is it worth catching more fires and gaining that experience even though HFD most likely have its current issues it’s going through right now for the foreseeable future? Is the pay cut worth experience?
To put it in perspective I’m only 22 not married, so if I was going to do this now would be the best time for me to do it. It’s just difficult given how little is known about how the department will be in the future.
