Is it normal to find the occasional roach in your home?

I live in Katy and am from Houston. I’ve always known roaches among other critters are normal here. Tree roaches are disgusting but prevalent in the summer.

My question – I just found a live roach near my shower drain. Found a dead one in our breakfast area last month. Is this normal? We tend to find a roach about every couple months inside our house especially during the summer months. We keep a clean house but have dogs, so I know roaches are attracted to dog food (we keep in vacuum sealed container) and then also the door opening and closing a lot to let the dogs out.

Is this normal? If not, what can I do about it? I’m pregnant and hesitant to exterminate. TIA!
