Is houston tap water safe to drink?

Hello, I know this may sound like a stupid question, but I am serious, I never usually drink tap water, this is why I ask.

I'm in Harris County, and ever since that Lake Jackson incident of the brain-eating amoeba I've been scared to drink the tap water.

Is it generally safe?
