Is Houston really that bad of a place to live?

I have a Job opportunity and considering moving to Houston. All I've heard is to avoid Houston and go to Austin or Dallas. However, it looks like Houston could be a cool place and the housing looks awesome.

I was told the crime is outrageous and it would be hard to live a normal life. I'm told there are smoke stacks that pollute the air and make it hard to breathe. They also say I would be bound to be in a major.storm every few months.

It seems very exaggerated and I would like opinions from people who live there. Would it be good for a single 30 year ols male?
