Is Houston cheaper than DFW?

Okay, so my husband and I rent a house in the DFW suburbs and have been trying to buy a home for awhile. Our budget is under 300K (preferably want to find something around 280 or lower).

This is impossible in DFW. Even out in the more “rural” areas, like far north Fort Worth. Sure, something around that price may come up, like once a month, and is snatched immediately.

I was searching around the Houston suburbs (Katy, Spring, Conroe, Sugar Land) and there seems to be WAY more options to choose from. I’m not super familiar with the area, so I don’t know if it means I’m looking into “bad” parts of town. But there’s plenty of options even around 250K, which is unheard of right now where I live. Even in the undesirable areas.

My husband makes good money as an HVAC technician, and we can really move anywhere in Texas. So I just wanted to get some thoughts from people who actually live here.
