Insurers have wide variations in prices for Texas Medical Center hospitals
| |
Do you have one of the health insurance plans below? This is a table from my latest issue brief, comparing prices at the 3 main TMC hospitals, courtesy of Serif Health (Link in the comments below). The data is still incomplete, but I was able to compute the mean price for 18 common outpatient procedures (including knee arthroscopy, cataract surgery, and hernia repair). Depending on which insurance plan your company has, the price of care varies drastically across the hospitals. Most of you likely work for an employer who self-insures. That is, your employer pays the insurance company to process your bills, but your employer pays the healthcare costs (less your copay and deductibles). Suppose you and your colleagues all go to the highest price hospital. Your employer will pay those higher costs, then pass them on to you the next year as higher premiums. And you're wondering why your premium keeps rising??? submitted by /u/FreshMixture6587 |
