Inner Loop communities for families

I currently live happily in a burb of Houston but my hubby wants us to move into town because his commute is horrible (I WFH part-time, so no commute). What I like about the burbs is that, in general, people are friendly with their neighbors, get to know others in their neighborhood, watch out for each other's houses, etc. Plus my kids have lots of friends in our neighborhood.

Which leads to my question….is there any neighborhood or community, big or small, in Inner Loop (but I guess I could probably talk him into Oak Forest too) where there is a true sense of community –ya know, inviting the neighbors over for pool parties, bbqs, play dates, wine tastings, etc.? Where you walk down the street and are friendly with at least a third of the neighbors on your street? Where your kids have several friends that they play with in the area? Does this exist in Houston?
