If you’re buying a new homeowner’s policy from Progressive, read the fine print about hurricanes.

I was shopping for a homeowner's policy this month and Progressive was the cheapest for 1% deductible and increased liability. At least it was until you read the fine print about hurricanes. The policy reads, 1% deductible for storm and wind damage unless it's a named hurricane. My deductible would have been $23,000 if I lost a roof, but $4600 if it wasn't a named storm. I just put a new roof on in June and it was $12,000. So, I if I went with Progressive, my deductible would only cover losses after the 5% or $23,0000 deductible. I called them to make sure and that's how it is. Caveat emptor.
