If the Texans do choose Tyree Wilson over Will Anderson, shouldn’t we trust Demeco in his defensive talent evaluation?
Everyone in this fanbase was beyond excited at the hiring of Demeco Ryans and trusting his process of setting us up for success. And now, the first real decision he has to make outside of hiring a competent staff around him and luring in FAs, is choosing a potential cornerstone on the defensive line. But now all of the sudden, us, as armchair NFL GMs, should doubt his ability to pick talent just because the media says otherwise? Even if one player is a better scheme fit or has a higher ceiling?
Regardless of our feelings of passing on a QB at 2, if the team decides to go defensive stud at 2, I feel like this should be where we trust Caserio to lean on Demecos experience and make the best decision for the team. I just feel like it's a running joke that the "Texans gonna Texan" and so it's in vogue to just s**t on whatever decisions are made. It's proven time and time again that nfl draft pundits are usually wrong and then start on a blank slate year after year with no repercussions to their takes so why are we so quick to dismiss Demecos first ability to prove his prowess as a defensive talent evaluator?
TLDR: If we choose defense at 2, I think Demeco will make the right decision over what everyone else in the media thinks.
