If my fellow Houstonians are feeling generous;
Hello Reddit neighbors. Posting on mobile. My family needs some assistance.
After my husband received startling MRI results on Friday 6/24, we were told to go to the ER because he was at risk of ending up in a wheelchair. After being admitted to the Neurology department at Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands, the Neurosurgeon explained that he had a “massive” ruptured disc between C6&7, which was compressing his spinal cord and blockage of the spinal fluid. In a way, he had a broken neck without the fracture. The wonderful neurology team performed an Anterior Cervical Discectomy Fusion, which went fabulously, and we are now home recovering.
This time is particularly tough for us not only because we hate to see my husband in poor health, but because he is the sole provider for our family of 4. To compound issues, we are uninsured and quite frankly, have a long road ahead of us.
We do not qualify for Medicaid. I am having to ask for donations to help us through this time. Our church organized a meal train which has a link to send gift cards or monetary donations, or I also have venmo and PayPal. If anyone is interested in assisting, I’ll share that info.
Finally, thank you if you’ve read this far. This past week has been such a blur for me, and just typing this out has been somewhat therapeutic. May you all be well! -Katelyn
