If Davis Mills has played better than Trevor Lawrence, then why is his leash so much shorter?

This is in spite being in an equally shitty, if not shittier, situation.

Lawrence is considered the best prospect since Andrew Luck, and is undoubtedly getting his 5th year option picked up.

If Mills is outplaying him, then why is the narrative around him, "maybe he gets to start next year but meh, him being the long-term solution is far-fetched"?

His 3rd round draft position is irrelevant now as he has NFL experience. Also this is not a Minshew situation because unlike Minshew, Mills has actual physical tools, so his ceiling is much higher.

Don't see why he can't be Dak Prescott, Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson, Tony Romo etc.
