The North Carolina-based is bringing its juicy fried chicken and Cajun-style sides to Houston

Bojangles, the small East Coast fast food chain that’s developed a cult following for its juicy fried chicken, buttery biscuits, and Cajun-style sides, has set its sights on Houston.

The chain announced an expansion to Texas on Monday, with the first Houston-area restaurant opening in Humble, likely something next year. Locations are also planned for Conroe and The Woodlands, plus another 18 stores for the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

The chain, which was founded in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1977, has gained a loyal following among fried chicken lovers in Southeastern states like Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. In 2018, Eater asked ā€œWhy is the South obsessed with Bojangles’ Fried Chicken?ā€ The answer, in part, comes form the chain’s preparation of its chicken, which is fresh, never frozen, and marinated 12 hours before it is hand-breaded and fried.

Bo’s secret-recipe biscuits are another draw. The process of making the biscuits from scratch includes more than 48 steps, and each location has a dedicated full-time employee whose main job is to prep the biscuits, cooking a new batch every 20 minutes so that diners get the freshest, fluffiest biscuit possible.

Similar to Popeye’s, another chain that’s beloved in the South, Bojangles serves up Cajun and Southern-tinged sides like dirty rice, Cajun pinto beans, seasoned fries and pimento cheese spread. But unlike the iconic New Orleans-based chain, Bojangles also offers breakfast all day long, with dishes like biscuits and gravy, breakfast sandwiches, and the Bo Berry , a take on the classic Bo’s biscuit mixed with blueberries and topped with sweet icing.

No word yet on a more exact timeline for the chain’s arrival in Houston, but stay tuned to Eater for future updates.
