IAH to Sugar Land with cargo

Hello all! I will be traveling to the Houston area in the next few days, spending a few weeks with my in-laws over the holidays. My wife and I are flying into IAH with our young daughter, born a few months ago. In addition to our regular suitcases, we will have a stroller, car seat, and a large box containing the baby's crib. We don't think that we and all our cargo can fit in my mother-in-law's car (sedan) in a single trip.

Based on a recent taxi ride my MIL took, we expect a van-sized cab from IAH to her place in Sugar Land would approach $125-140, including a tip. Do you have any ideas on how to save costs on this trip? (My other in-laws with a bigger SUV will give us a ride on our return, so this is only one-way for our arrival.)

So far, my ideas include:

  1. I we send one of us (my wife), the baby and most of our cargo in the car. One of us (me) takes myself and my luggage on Metro bus #102 to downtown, then my MIL makes a second trip but only as far as downtown Houston as opposed to the airport (or perhaps further points south/southwest if I transfer to light rail or another bus). (Cheapest but slowest, also involving extra driving.)
  2. Airport shuttle/van service to downtown, or perhaps all the way to Sugar Land. (Potentially slower, potentially just as expensive.)
  3. Uber/Lyft instead of a taxi/car service. (Probably cheaper but spotty availability of van-sized vehicles.)

Maybe we will suck it up and just take the taxi, but in light of the cost I wanted to brainstorm with local experts. Thanks in advance for any ideas!
