I went back and watched CJ’s rookie highlights…
I have been trying to figure out what's going on with CJ and I wanted to see what was different about his rookie season. On most of the plays he's still facing pressure and is a split second away from getting smashed on almost every throw just like it is now.
However, He was just more decisive. Also, half the big plays went to Tank, who was always open immediately.
I'm not a coach, but if I was trying to fix the offense I would do a couple things. Shorter progressions to start. 2 reads and if it's not there check it down. I feel like there were a few times last night where CJ had some time and just seemed to be waiting for a deep shot to open up instead of just taking a short completion.
Next I would try to up the tempo. They take the play clock down to 0 every snap and it gives the opposing defense too much time to rest. I'm not saying go full Brady no huddle, but don't give the D so much time to recover and diagnose.
Obviously the offensive line is the biggest issue, but for better or worse we have what we have and need to work around it. CJ made plays behind a mediocre line his rookie season so I know he can do it. I think getting Kirk and Berrios back will definitely help as well. He needs players who can get open quickly like Tank could…but what do I know?
