I visited a pet store for birds in Houston. I’m worried about the safety and wellbeing of the animals there.

There’s a bird store near that has me worried. The animals there appear overcrowded and neglected. Several of them are self-harming to the point they are almost completely bald from pulling out their feathers, and some are wearing bandages from it. I checked in a week or two later, and those same bandages appear dirty and unchanged. Some of the birds have (according to store employees) been there for years and the owners either refuse to let them go at all, or they price the relinquished ones so outrageously high that nobody could afford them.

I reviewed the online reviews for this place, and it appears that this has been an ongoing problem for at least a decade. I’m not sure if I should notify the police or the Texas wildlife department about the situation. I’m not sure what to do.
