I need your help

I'm at a loss on what to do and hope someone here can help. Four weeks ago an elderly friend of mine passed away. He had no next of kin and was a veteran. The VA office says it's on the county coroner's office to set everything up and the county coroner says it's on the VA. Does anyone have any contacts to help expedite this process or know who I can talk to? I even raised money for his cremation but cannot get any movement on getting his remains released.
