I dont know who needs to hear this but DONT leave your car running unattended! And other lessons like flagged down cops ignoring you.
So I just came back from Oreileys on N. Main giving witness statements over a car jacking that happened in the parking lot.
I was in the store and there was a dude clearly going thru a crack paranoia episode. Customer in a flannel shirt walks in after opening his hood and crack head jumps in the driver seat and takes off with it. By this time flannel jacket guy is outside trying to open the door, almost getting pinned when he hit a car, and the store manager was outside calling 911 and almost getting herself run over.
Moral of the story is DONT leave your car running. It wasnt even his car, it was his daughters car he was fixing.
Second, WTF HPD.
About a minute or two after he jetted off with the SUV I saw a cop driving down north main and stop at the stop light (N. Main and 45) and I went to flag her down. She rolls her window down and I yell (its loud) across to her that someone just got car jacked and they are on the phone with 911. She asks where and I tell her Oreileys back there and point. The look she gave me told me already that she was annoyed more than anything else and it took me by surprise given what i just told her. At this point I cant hear what she is saying and I point to my ear that I cant hear her, she then does a bunch of hand movements I cant figure but she points to her computer. At this point I repeat Oreileys Hoping she would bust a U turn and head there. She just takes off on me.
I head back to the store and when the first two cops show up (M/F) I tell them what happened and they just give me a look and I already knew they were gonna cover for that officer because they said nothing. At this point im pissed because Ive had my car stolen, stripped and dumped and I know the feeling of the cops half assing the situation. I tell the next cop who shows up and he atleast was sympathetic and told me that the next cop walking in was a sergeant. I finally found someone who took it serious enough and said he would deal with it but tell me why I have a feeling this wont get dealt with seriously.
Moral of the story is dont ever rely on cops for your protection or for them to take your situation serious. Half of the ones I talked to today didnt give a single s**t about the carjacking or the first cops behavior. I know car jackings happen all the time but its problematic when I get the same attitude that I got years ago when my car was stolen. He was just there to take a report unlike the friends I have that still send me local listings for the rare wheels that were on my car (Mugen NR mirrors) hoping they are the ones stolen.
Ill edit later. Got to catch up today.
