How’s life for people 30+ in Houston?

I’m a 29 year old woman with just a puppy. I’m currently living in Virginia and I’m trying to find a new location to move to at the beginning of next year. I’d like to visit to see the area before deciding. What do people 30+ do for fun in Houston? Are there any areas you’d recommend?
