How to help a rural country guy adjust to Houston life?
Hey y’all,
My boyfriend is from rural Kentucky and is struggling to find anything he likes about Houston. I dunno how long we’ll stay in Houston, whether it’s another year or ten years, but while we’re here, I want to help him make the most of his experience.
I moved from small town Tennessee to work in aerospace, and while it’s been tough adjusting, I feel like I’ve come to find a lot of things I love here. My hatred of the f’d up traffic and murderous weather was joined by a love of concerts, museums, parks, ballet, and FOOD…
My BF moved here last year to work in oil and gas near Baytown. He is highly introverted, a homebody, and hates crowds and traffic. He misses how insanely pretty KY is, and I don’t blame him. The Appalachian mountains are gorgeous, and you can actually see the stars at night. It doesn’t take an hour in deadly traffic to get everywhere. You can buy large tracts of land and not have neighbors for acres and acres.
After the pandemic, I want to take him to all the things I’ve come to love, but I also know the big crowds would make him uncomfortable… so I don’t know where to take him that he could truly enjoy.
tl;dr My dear Houstonians, where could I take my introverted, crowd-hating, nature-loving country boyfriend in the Houston area so that he won’t be so miserable living in this concrete jungle? Got any advice to help him adjust?
