How To Fix The Astros?

So the Astros are under performing and aside from sitting back and hoping they start playing better, what can proactively be done to improve this team right now? My thoughts below, what are yours?

  1. Yanier Diaz every day catcher. I love Maldy and what he's done for us, but he's never been a great bat and this year his defense isn't stellar. Diaz has the bat and defense has been great as well. It's time to make the move.
  2. Dubon playing 4 of 5 days. Dubon should get a start at every infield position in rotation, take a day off, and repeat. This keeps him in the lineup and gives each infielder a day of rest.
  3. McCormick everyday player. Meyers and Julks are statistically very close in offense, but Meyers is considered the better defender. So McCormick in left, Meyers center, or mix it up with McCormick center and Julks left. But McCormick should be the constant and the other parts switched in and out.
  4. Pena was at his best in the 2 spot. Bregman has shown great performance in the 4 spot. When people show you who they are, believe them.
  5. Abreu can sort out his issues in the bottom three of the lineup. Bat no higher than 7th until he's re-established his form.
  6. Regular lineup: 2B Altuve, SS Pena, RF Tucker, 3B Bregman, C Diaz, DH Dubon, CF McCormick, LF Julks, 1B Abreu
  7. Montero relegated to mop up duty and blow outs. Last year would seem to be the outlier, time to move him down the pecking order.

All that falls on Dusty. I don't see him doing it, but a fan can dream. As for the front office, hopefully they're considering the following:

  1. Trade Korey Lee. – With Diaz's showing this season, and Lee looking good in the minors, strike while the iron is hot. Unless there is a plan to move Diaz to first, then Lee is blocked in the majors and will wither on the vine. Trade him now for big league help or even prospect(s) we can look at for 2024-25.
  2. Trade Montero for another struggling player to see if a change of scenery does anything for either. What have you got to lose? Brandon Lowe? Robbie Grossman? Christian Yelich? Marcell Ozuna?
  3. Trade older prospects for younger prospects. Our top 4 prospects are OF and 22 or younger. Perdro Leon & Justin Dirden are both 25 and not pushing their way onto the roster any time soon. Korey Lee is 24 and blocked by Diaz. Forrest Whitley is perenially injured, perhaps someone else would like to take a chance on him? J.J. Matijevic is 27.
  4. Make calls on Lane Thomas, Brent Rooker, Paul Goldschmidt, Pete Alonso, Christian Yelich. Perhaps some of our older prospects would interest teams. I think Korey Lee could be a prime candidate. And with Meyers & McCormick stepping on each other's toes, maybe we move one of them.

What ideas do you have for improving the Astros for this season and the future?
