How much do you have to make a year to live downtown?

My fiance and I are moving later this year or next year and I want to live in the downtown area because I like how everything is very walkable compared to the rest of Houston. I always enjoyed my visits downtown (craziness aside) and want to know how much does someone/a couple have to make a year to live downtown comfortably.
