How much did you put down for your house?
My mama is from Houston.. I love it.. I’m from San Diego.. living in NYC.. my husband from NY even loves it.
It’s my dream to live in TX.. I can’t stand living here lol. We have 800+ credit.. we both make around $190,000/year combined right now (hate NYC but there is hella money here) and have been saving for a few years. I just want to throw out there that while this sounds like tons, you are just living comfortable in NYC on this.. rent for a two bed apt here is $2,200/month.. on the LOW side.. I’m sure jobs will pay accordingly down there so that figure will look diff in TX where it’s 40% cheaper to live.
Last time we visited in February a really awesome realtor took us around to nice middle class areas.. with good schools! Most homes we looked at were $210,000-$250,000 and that’s what we are looking to stick to. I’m sure we can afford more but we live below our means and don’t want to spend a ton just bc we can. Plenty of nice homes we saw for that price range.
Curious — How much did you have to foot moving into a house total? What’s it looking like down there?
I’ve got a spreadsheet that accounts for all of our moving costs and I’m just trying to see if we are at the point we can finally own a home or if we need to keep stashing.
One mistake I never made was buying a home in NYC.. $900,000 gets you 1/3 of what you get in TX. Old tiny home with no yard or parking. People have to wait until they’re like 40+ to own homes here.
Is 20% down the norm? Would love to start a thread of numbers about this.
