How is Kroger compared to HEB in Houston? Price plus quality? Is it area dependent?

I almost never went to Kroger because I felt it was the most expensive compared to HEB and Walmart. But for the last 2 months I've noticed the coupons on popular/common grocery items are wildly better at Kroger than HEB. HEB on the other hand just recently had a bit of a scam for a coupon in their nuts section (they jacked up the price for pre-packaged nuts, put a coupon the end you paid $1 more if you got the item with the coupon than if got a bag and filled the nuts manually. Yikes)

What's your experience with these two stores over the last few years and within different areas in Houston?
