how early should I be looking for apartments?

Moving to Houston at the start of October and was wondering when I should start looking / fly in to find a place or sign a lease. For context, I’m from a major area where housing goes like hot pockets so you can get away with moving like 2 weeks before but was wondering if houston moves slower/quicker. Considering Labor Day weekend (so a month early) to check out places and sign a lease but would appreciate any feedback.
