How do I help these turtles…

I have this bayou/canal in my neighborhood. Every morning I take my walk and we have about 40–50 turtles that come out and sun bathe. We have a few ducks and other birds as well. I have small children and would love to have them grow up with these animals.

Is there anyone I can reach out to maybe someone at UH to make sure they have a healthy ecosystem?
