How do i go about finding a maid / housekeeper?

I never thought i would be in the position to hire a maid (my mom was a maid for the first half of my childhood). I always thought this was only for super bougie folks. But now i have a baby and i really can’t keep up with his mess plus the general bigger chores (bathrooms, dusting etc) and working full time myself.

So I’m in the incredibly privileged position to be able to hire someone. I did one appointment through a maid service and they charged me almost $500 for my 2000sf home. Am i off base or is this too much?? I’m also sure the maid only got half, if that.

I was thinking I’d just like to find a maid that works for herself (or himself w/e). So that hopefully the price is more reasonable and the money goes right in her pocket. I have all the supplies, if anything is missing i would buy it.

Any recommendations? Or recommendations of where to look?
