How did everyone stay warm during these hard times?

I want to hear everyone’s stories so I can be better prepared for next time.

My family and I have a fire place in our home, but even the fireplace didn’t keep us warm (we had no power for days). So what we did, was we made a little room in the fireplace area (the living room) with pretty much putting up bedsheets all across the hallway entrance and essentially creating a little burrow for ourselves. This actually worked and we were warm, when going past the bedsheets, the rest of the House was extremely cold!
