How climate change impacts Black populations in the U.S.
Heatwaves, hurricanes, extreme flooding, and wildfires — as the climate changes, we’ve seen an uptick in the frequency, severity and intensity of hazardous weather across the United States. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) estimates that between 2018 and 2022, the U.S. experienced 90 disasters, totaling more than $621 billion — a per-year increase of 48 percent in number and 37 percent in cost from the preceding decade.
