How bad do roads get during the freeze??

I go to A&M but went back to Houston for the weekend to celebrate my birthday. However since I know roads might freeze up, I want yalls opinion what's the best time to go before the roads freeze up, and if its too late then how long yall think itll be till its safe again. I live Southeast so I'd have to drive to the opposite side (Northwest) of Houston to go back.

My classes are cancelled Tuesday and possibly Wednesday but theres a really important career fair I can't afford to miss.
