Houston’s “culture”?

First off, I love Houston. It’s been my home for thirty years or so and I always want the best for it and its people. However, I want to pick your collective brains; just to see what the people on this subreddit think, take it as you will. I just came back from Dallas, the nemesis city by a lot of accounts, and I have to wonder why it is that we don’t have entertainment venues (as a whole) like, as an example, legacy shops (think River Oaks District multiplied by three in size, including a three story food hall). Why would a business like Eataly pick Dallas over Houston? We have just as many well to do individuals here as they do over there, perhaps more. A number of places that people could go hang out, shop and eat, have become shooting grounds and scenes of mayhem (Galleria, River Oaks District, etc.); making you feel unsafe about being there.

Again, I wrote this just out of curiosity, not because I prefer Dallas over Houston.

If you think I’m comparing Houston to Plano, state it; I’ll accept that. Yet, I don’t believe Sugar Land or Woodlands have anything comparable either.
