Houston Thanksgiving Day parade

I’ve lived in houston for two decades and have never been to the parade. Going to try to coerce my family into going with me this year. They will be resistant to getting up early. Any advice for a good spot near the end of the route so we can arrive later, and how long does the parade generally last?
