Houston runners, how are you handling the heat this summer?
I typically only run in the afternoons right after work. It helps me destress and provides a logical barrier between work and not-work, which is important for me because I work from home and hate my job. This is perfectly fine from October through May, but I'm having a harder time than usual this summer with all these 100 degree days with little cloud cover. I know running in the morning is the obvious solution, but I just can't get myself to wake up earlier to do it, and it disrupts my whole routine. As for the evenings, I am also one of those people who can only run on a completely empty stomach if I don't want to cramp up, so unless I eat dinner really late, not going to happen. I sometimes tough it out and just run a short, slow 3 miles at 5 pm, and it's always absolutely horrible. My wife worries I will get heat stroke. I've been skipping more and more days, and I feel fatter and lazier. How's everyone else handling it?
