Houston Restaurateur Vincent Mandola Dies After Contracting COVID-19

The longtime restaurateur, known to family and friends as “Bubba,” died at age 77 on Sunday
Vincent Mandola, a Houston restaurateur that’s part of one of the city’s biggest dining dynasties, has died at the age of 77.
The Mandola family announced the passing of Vincent “Bubba” Mandola in a Facebook post on Sunday, urging Houstonians to wear their masks, wash their hands, and stay at home as much as possible to avoid spreading COVID-19. According to Click2Houston, Mandola contracted the novel coronavirus in June, and his death was attributed to complications related to heart failure that followed the infection.
“Please please please be vigilant out there. Remember we are ALL tired of this temporary way of life. Follow the guidelines anyway,” the post to Mandola’s Deli’s Facebook page reads. “This is a real thing affecting our families, friends and communities.”
The Mandola family has long been a staple of the Houston restaurant scene. Vincent and Mary Mandola first debuted Nino’s in 1977, later opening Vincent’s, La Gelateria, Grappino di Nino, and Pronto Cucino. Despite Mandola’s passing, the family will continue to operate his Houston restaurants.
