Houston Restaurants Closing Early Due to Tropical Storm Nicholas
After years of experience with storms becoming more fierce than expected, Houston restaurant owners are playing it safe as Tropical Storm Nicholas comes to town. Unlike a certain other “Nick” reputed to come to town once a year, this is a visitor that no one wants. A stage three flood warning is in effect, not just for tonight, but also for the next three days. Rainfall may reach two to three inches an hour, and that means many roads could be underwater. As Houstonians know, even an hour of heavy rain can render roads impassable.Small streams of water can suddenly grow into car-trapping rivers.
If Tropical Storm Nicholas indeed causes flooding, the best thing to do is stay home — and employees shouldn’t have to go work non-essential jobs, either.
For that reason, some area restaurants are closing early for Monday, September 13, and may remain closed on Tuesday as well. We’ll be updating this list as we receive new information. If your restaurant, bar or other food- or drink-related business is closed or closing earlier, please email us. All of the restaurants that contacted us had the same message: Stay Safe, Houston!
