Houston rent and apartment life?

I will be a new grad next year and work out of downtown Houston but I’m not sure what to expect and how to go about my apartment search. I lived in high cost- of-living areas on the east coast for my entire life so I also don’t really have a good sense of what is considered a good deal for the city. I’m seeing a huge range of one bedroom apartments going for $1.4k (which seems too cheap to be true) to like $6k in downtown so I’m not sure what to expect. I’m currently considering an apartment in midtown or downtown but what is generally the going rate for a 1 bedroom with security in the city?
