Houston Petland Misleads Houston City Council

CALLING ALL PUPPY MILL ADVOCATES! I just found out that the Petland in Houston has been trying get City Council to reverse the humane pet store ordinance that just passed in January. The owner, Luis Marquez, who owns multiple Petland stores in Florida and Texas, showed up to the City Council meeting yesterday and made a bunch misleading statements about Petland’s business practices. Documented practices like sourcing from puppy mills, selling sick puppies, and failing to provide proper veterinary care https://www.humanesociety.org/petland.

To make matters worse, Council Member Pollard got a $5000 financial contribution from Petland (as seen on Pollard’s 7.15.2022 Campaign Finance Report, https://cohweb.houstontx.gov/CampaignFinanceWeb/). His comments during the meeting clearly showed he’s now Petland’s primary advocate on the council!! (To watch the meeting, go here: https://houstontx.new.swagit.com/videos/185994?ts=2963.)

Houston is better than this! Why would we reverse a law that was just passed to protect puppies and citizens! Please call or email YOUR city council member, AND the city council members AT LARGE, to tell them you support the humane pet store ordinance and do not want pet stores in Houston that are linked with puppy mill cruelty! Ask them to keep the ordinance as is! AND SHARE THIS!
