Surprised I couldn't find any conversation here about this great commentary. I agree that this kind of development would be a massive success in Houston and fill a huge hole. A few of my thoughts: -I'd love to see a mechanism for individuals to invest in this kind of development. I've started banking with community banks who specifically serve local business owners; however, it would be even cooler to invest specifically in a community project that I love. -I'd be interested in hearing about any regulatory hurdles that Jeff Kaplan and other, similar smaller-scale, locally-focused developers face. IMHO local government should do everything possible to enable and promote this kind of development; however, from what I can tell, the regulatory framework seems to favor huge developers. Any other places around Houston that give you this vibe? How can we create more of them? submitted by /u/ianbian |
