Houston-native Shelley Duvall in the Chronicle’s Sunday edition (1971)

I recently came across this Houston Chronicle feature story on Shelley Duvall from 1971 when she was on the very cusp of her acting career. Shelley attended Waltrip High and was throwing a party for her artist boyfriend in Houston when she was discovered by fate when Robert Altman was in town to film Brewster McCloud. She would late star in movies like 3 Women, The Shining, Popeye, and Roxanne. And would create her own television series for kids such as Faerie Tale Theatre and Bedtime Stories. She left Hollywood in the mid 90s after an earthquake destroyed her home and went straight back to Texas. She resides in the Hill Country today.

ALSO – If anyone here has any photos related to Shelley’s early career in Houston please send them my way! She was in many more Houston Chronicle issues, newspaper clippings, and other magazine stories from this time period that I don’t have. I’m in the early stages of writing a book chronicling Shelley’s life and career and I’m on the hunt for all the photos I can get for it!
