Houston Midtown 2016 Main St Apartment Safety

I am an Asian male trying to move to Houston. I found this affordable apartment in midtown right beside the Gulf fwy, so it's basically right next to downtown. Its also beside Gray St, which i heard was dangerous?? Can anyone say anything about this place? Thanks
