Houston hospitals are overwhelmed
This is not just a Houston problem, but I thought y’all should know and it’s something that we should talk about more.
During the height of COVID, there was much talk about flattening the curve so that hospitals are not overwhelmed.
However, even now when we are not in a major COVID spike, houston hospitals are overwhelmed.
ERs are massively overcrowded, hospitals are completely full, ICUs are full, patients have to wait in the ER for days for an ICU bed.
Many healthcare workers have quit due to the extremely stressful environment, which has partially contributed to significant understaffing. Corporate owned hospitals have also made the decision not to raise salaries or improve working environments, also leading to more attrition and burnout.
More than ever, our hospital workers and staff are overwhelmed, and patient care is suffering. I don’t necessarily have a solution, but this is a problem the general public should be aware of and should be discussing.
