Houston gets another 6 minute flyover by the International Space Station tonight, 6:57 TO 7:03 PM.
If you have never watched the ISS fly over, set a reminder for tonight. Should be clear skies, ideal for watching.
Get somewhere with a clear view of the sky, especially toward the west-northwest. At 6:57 PM, watch the horizon, facing west-northwest, and you'll see a what looks like a very bright star appear, climbing rapidly. It'll cross near the middle of the sky and disappear 6 minutes later, in the south-southeast sky.
The people on that ISS are flying around planet earth at 17,130 MPH!
Another fun thing to do is to get someone on the phone that's far away, and watch the ISS together. It brings a connection that's hard to describe.
There are several smart phone apps that'll help you know where to look, just search ISS in your app store.
Bring someone out that's never seen it before and they'll get a real thrill from it.
Keep in mind, although the ISS does cross Houston's sky fairly often, you can't SEE it on every pass. It's only visible when it's in the shadow of Earth. It has to be lit by the sun but if there's daylight, it's invisible to the naked eye.
