Houston Crime Data for 2019-2023!

So, mayor Whitmire won the position largely due to the perception that crime is out of control. I was curious what the data said. Note, I'm not a researcher or analysist, just a bored dude on a Friday evening.

• Data is from here. Data as recorded during those years using the nation's NIBRS standard. You COULD do back further, but accuracy won't be good for comparison since reporting is less thorough and categories are different.
• Data was compiled using PowerBI because it's over 1 million rows and Excel struggles with large data sets.
• I started breaking down the heat maps by year, but discovered the differences were minimal. The location of high and low crime have been pretty much the same over the years.
• I know my dataisbeautiful would tear it apart, but this is my first time using PowerBI so be kind please. 😉
• In Q4 of 2023, there are huge dips in the number of crimes. This may be that they didn't enter all their data at the end of the year. I didn't exclude it because I don't know what they did or did not do. So, take that with a grain of salt
