Houston Chronicle Sales at Walmart?
A guy had a small stand inside near the end of the grocery center aisle at our local Walmart in North Houston, no logo on his shirt or banner.
He told my husband he was working for the Houston Chronicle and selling their circulars on monthly or annual subscription at a discount, with a $10 Walmart gift card incentive if he signed up today.
My husband was kind and let him finish his spiel. He told him he wasn’t ready to sign up today but to give him his name so if he decided to later this week he could get the sales commission credit. He said it only would happen here and that they set up stalls across Houston at Walmarts doing these sales.
Has anyone else run across this?
It just seemed a bit off with the gift cards, they were just a stack of Walmart gift cards with $10 sharpied on the front boldly. Without any sort of logos, etc we felt a little weird about giving any personal information, but not sure how he could get a booth in Walmart in the center grocery aisle otherwise.
