Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. and partners Juan Carlos Martinez de Aldecoa and Jimmy Doan are expanding their mobile cart coffee business in Hyatt’s Thompson Houston. The newest outpost of Maven Coffee and Cocktails opened on Wednesday morning, following the success of the Rex Hospitality Group’s mobile carts at Minute Maid Stadium and the Toyota Center.

“We knew we were ready to expand, and Thompson Houston was the perfect place for our first location,” McCullers said in a press statement. “It’s a stunning space designed to welcome hotel guests, local residents, downtown commuters, and everyone in between.”

Located on the first floor of the hotel, the coffee shop is accessible through an exterior entrance under the shade of the hotel valet’s porte-cochere. The menu, curated by Nicolás Baizán de Aldecoa, features coffee, tea, sandwiches, pastries, and sweets, as well as hand-crafted cocktails and a curated selection of wines.

Designed by Construction Concepts, the new space features soft lighting and earth tones, accentuated with shades of bronze and dark blue. Paintings by Oaxacan artist Didier Mayés shape the space, where baristas will dole out a host of cocktails and coffee beverages. Described by Aldecoa as a “coffee-by-day, cocktails-by-night atmosphere,” the shop boasts options such as the Xoco Fizz — inclusive of Toki Japanese whiskey and banana — and the Conversation Starter, which includes zephyr, passionfruit, chai, mint and honey. Coffee-based cocktails, including an espresso martini and the Mexican carajillo, will also make an appearance, and food options such as the waffle-pressed truffle grilled cheese croissant sandwich, jamon and cheese sandwich, and lemon tea cakes round out the expanded menu. Maven Coffee and Cocktails also includes offerings from local purveyors, such as breads from Houston’s Magnol French Baking, croissants from Love Croissants, and several freshly squeezed juices from JuiceWell.

Maven Coffee and Cocktails is located at 1717 Allen Parkway in Thompson Houston. It is open between 6:30 a.m. through 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 6:30 a.m. – 11 p.m. Friday through Saturday; and 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Sunday.
