House needs major plumbing repairs. What was your experience getting your house re-piped in Houston?

My wife and I bought an older home and unfortunately it needs to be re-piped soon. I want to do it before we have major leak or plumbing failure. However, we're a little intimidated by the idea of it. Figured I'd ask /r/houston for their experiences.

For anyone who's done this before, what should we expect in terms of cost and impact? Any recommended companies or ones to avoid? Thanks in advance.
