House landord issues – city of Houston

Hey,

Just reaching out the members who live in the city limits about some issues I've been having with my landlord since day1 and need some advice…

I moved in to a fully furnished town house at the beginning of November – all bills paid (water/electric/gas/internet/etc). I suspect that use to be a AirBNB rental from all the light switch labels, basic furniture, ROKU TVs, and board games. Anyways, my landlord has reached out to me more in these last ~50 days than any one had in a 12 month lease.

  • I changed the internet wifi name to something different so a couple of my devices could connect – he tells me that the A/C is no longer connected to the wifi when he logs in.
  • He has the A/C password protected so I have to email him any time i need it change – which sucked when we had that cold front come thru recently.
  • he gave me access to the A/C units (2 total) and one night i woke up freezing and turned it up 2 degrees at like 2AM. He emailed me a few hours later saying that the units need to be set at the same temperature.

Most recently – I came home to my house after work and opened the front door while inside and a set of keys falls out from the keyhole. I tested one of the keys and it was definitely the key to the house. It looks like maybe its a ring of keys for a few of the properties being managed. Anywho – I just sent him an email asking why I found a key to my house in my door (he didn't give any 24 hr authorization to enter). Looking back, I probably should have kept the keys and waited to see what happened.

Point blank – living here is not worth the money being saved on bills. I would much rather just pay my own utilities than having someone breathing down my neck constantly. What advice does anyone have here about treading around this issue of finding a key in my front door?
