Hot take: Katami isn’t that good
I've gone twice, and I really want to like it. The interior is beautiful, and it looks like the food should taste amazing. It just doesn't.
-The menu leans too heavily on waygu, and waygu is a crutch. It's not bad by any means, but it's hard to make better better or worse. Katami just serves a ton of it in their tasting menus. -The fish isn't great. The 8 piece sushi combo was very forgettable, and weirdly came with 3 pieces of mackerel. -It's VERY expensive. A casual weeknight sushi dinner with a cocktail ran me over $300 for two. For those prices in Houston, you have to be serving an exceptional product. Katami does not.
