Honest question: why are Houstonians more outraged by what happened in Minneapolis than Hardy street?
Serious, not a rhetorical question.
Theories:
-
momentum and band wagon jumping. National news vs local
-
Race: victims were white and cop was black in the Hardy street raid
-
virtue signaling: the virtue signal is strong when the victim is black vs white
-
Floyd’s death was on video and an image is more compelling
-
Hardy street was just fuel and Floyd’s death was the spark
I’m not trying to make a rhetorical point. I know it probably looks that way, but honestly I’m not. But outside of the theories I proposed, I can’t figure how Floyd’s death is a bigger deal than Hardy street. Thoughts?
