Homophobic and Violent Uber Driver

A few days ago, a relative of mine had a very traumatic experience due to a bigoted uber driver.

During the ride, my relative let the driver know that they can take a different street instead of the gps route to avoid the train (this was in east downtown). My relative said this in a casual, friendly way as a suggestion. However, the driver pulled over and started yelling at my relative to "Get the f*** out of my car, you f**!"

Then the driver attempted to swipe at and strike my relative who was sitting in the back. The driver then rolled down the windows to let everyone outside hear him yelling slurs. I'm not certain if the driver exited and opened the back door or if my relative got out themselves. But once out, my relative said he would call the police. The driver responded with, "You're gonna end up in a ditch!"

The driver drove off, leaving my relative far from his requested destination (too far of a walk). My relative had to call a friend to get them. They were and still are understandably shaken and traumatized by this unnecessary aggression.

My relative reported to Uber and was refunded. Uber said they would "minimize" the chances of being paired with that driver again. A police report was also attempted by phone, but the woman on the line raised her voice at my relative and told him "I don't see a hate crime. What hate crime? You just didn't like that he called you gay." My relative countered saying that Uber's terms of service states what drivers can't discriminate on, including sexual orientation. Then the woman said he had to call a different place for that and hung up on him.

I'm posting this to spread awareness. And for the sake of that and NOT racism, I will reveal that the driver was Asian. The woman at the police station was Hispanic (just like my relative). If you want the drive details from Uber, please message me.
