Homeowner’s Insurance – More than Doubled…

Hello there. My homeowners insurance through GEICO doubled since last August ($2200 to $4800). We also have to have a separate flood policy that is around $1200 (prob will also be going up).

We used a Broker at a bank and he shopped around 5-6 companies… he reported back the following (I’m in Houston Texas btw)…

The markets they “approached” were as follows:

Central Mutual – declined to quote due to age of roof. Central’s requirements on new business is roof no older than 2yrs old. Cincinnati – Not quoting in your zip code Nationwide – Minimum dwelling coverage of $750k State Auto – Not quoting in zip code Travelers – our only offer but more than we are paying with Geico

Before I jump on PolicyGenius and get a million phone calls, does anyone have recent experience negotiating this and have a suggestion for a homeowners insurance company? I know tons of companies aren’t insuring in Texas anymore and lots less competition these days but any advice would be much appreciated.
